Populous trichocarpa, Black Cottonwood, The People's Tree.
In this class, we'll learn about + make medicine with our local Black Cottonwood (Populus trichocarpa).
We'll start by meeting together at The Plant Ally to gather our materials & then walk together down to the river trail to meet these trees in person and collect fragrant, resinous, buds from fallen branches. These buds will then be used to create your own cottonwood bud oil which can be used for many ailments as well as turned into a healing salve or body balm for swollen arthritic joints, sore muscles, and skin healing. All materials will be provided but please bring your own bag or basket for gathering buds. The buds are highly resinous - so please be aware that rich red-tinged resin will get on whatever vessel you choose!
This class is co-taught by community herbalist, Malerie Morgan, and Brittany Thurlow.
We're following strict WA State phase 2 guidelines and our capacity will be well below 25%- as a gathering of 7. We will be 6ft apart and masks will be required. Pre-registration is required. Liability waiver must be signed before class begins. AND we're so so excited to see you!
