Deep foresty-green and tufty foliage that forms in a spiraling rosette from a cane, the Compact Dragon Tree or Dracaena Janet Craig is one of our favorite plants for small corners and tight spaces where you're wanting some greenery.
Size: This plant is in a 2'' pot, and from the bottom of the pot to the top of the plant, measures from around 4''-6''. This plant can grow to be 6' tall indoors, yet grows at the rate of about 4''-5'' per year.
Light: This plant is highly adaptable to many light levels. It prefers to be in indirect or bright filtered light but it can tolerate areas of less light.
Water: Dracaena trees prefer the soil to be dry between waterings, but not completely throughout the pot. They are sensitive to over-watering and are prone to root rot. If the soil becomes too dry, the Dracaena will let you know by turning the tips of some of its leaves brown. Dracaenas, like other plants, like a routine and are adaptable so once you find a good routine, stick to it!
*Dracaenas, like many other plants, are sensitive to salts, chlorines, water-softeners, etc. in the water - we recommend letting your tap water sit for 24 hours before watering or using distilled water.
Humidity: This plant prefers some humidity so at the very least, please make sure it's not near a heater or cooling vent. It would love to be near a humidifier or you could place it on a tray of wet rocks.
Temperature: These do well with common indoor home temperatures of 65-75 F.
Soil: Dracaena need well-draining potting soil with lava rock or pumice stone for drainage.
Fertilizing: We recommend fertilizing in its main growing season (Spring-Fall), once per month with a houseplant fertilizer. This plant is slow-growing and not a heavy feeder.
Flower: Does not flower.
Toxicity: This plant is toxic to animals & humans if ingested. Please keep out of reach from your fur pals and small children.
